Calm after the storm

When a storm brought a tree down and demolished most of the North Monterey County Unified School District’s old bus maintenance facility, the opportunity to build a more up-to-date one arose, but with restrictions: the building’s square footage and location on the site could not change. While helping the District navigate the local-agency process, we worked within the given parameters to design a new facility that addresses modern maintenance needs and brings everything up to code. The vehicle maintenance garage features new equipment and exhaust and drainage systems, while redesigned offices give employees better work spaces, new restrooms, and a break room. With brand-new lighting, mechanical, and HVAC systems, the District is realizing energy savings in addition to improved operations. The wheels on the bus are turning again.
